The gameplay focuses on collaborative puzzle-solving. You can control both characters in single player mode, by switching between them. The game does support a full online co-op mode as well. You and your partner must collaborate to overcome the challenges in the level and avoid being caught by the creatures in the environment. Each character may have unique items or abilities that are critical for leveling up. Stealth and perfect timing remain key components of traversing in a dangerous and convoluted level.
The world will be showcased from a 3D side-scrolling angle. This will allow for richer and more complex level design. Players will see many disturbing places throughout the world of The Spiral. The atmosphere is thick with tension urging you to pay attention to your surroundings. You will stealth and hide from creatures that are too strong to fight. Oftentimes puzzles will require the two characters to be in two places to perform simultaneous actions to create a wormhole to progress to the next puzzle in the level.
