Guardians of Azuma is a spinoff that reimagines Rune Factory with Asian mythology. As a shrine apprentice, embody a deity, and rebuild a shattered realm using farming, crafting, and real-time combat. NPC relationships unlock secret quests while seasons affect crop yield and dungeon puzzles. It also features the series’ first co-op mode. Fresh, yet charmingly reminiscent of Rune Factory 5.

Gameplay:

Cultivate combat herbs for potions or sacred rice fields that enhance your magic. Solve water shrine puzzles in spring and ice-locked ones in winter to tackle the ever-changing dungeon cycles within the lunar cycle. Pets are replaced by yokai taming, which allows unique spirit abilities to deepen exploration.

Action combat now includes elemental fire/water/wood/metal stances and partner combo attacks. A second player can now control your tamed spirit companion in local co-op. Sorrow and Retribution 2: Fighting Whats Right Gameplay Town events shift according to the festival selection and corresponding karma levels.
